No experience is boring or a waste or time when you have a curious one who you love with you.
Having a dog can be like having a child with you in some ways. If you get to experience their wonder and excitement with them it makes even just getting stuck for a train a fun experience.
The only thing missing is to talk about it the way you can with a child.
I wish I could ask Cooper what he thinks of stuff like this.
