A few years ago some of the ladies I ride with came up with the idea for a "Free Ice Cream Ride". The goal was to ride from one Friendly's Restaurant to another for five hours, eating free ice cream all day long. We would travel beautiful scenic back roads to get from one to the next all day long. It's a great time. The lines at the ice cream windows are usually long with LOTS of children waiting for their free ice cream. Cooper really loves children. Kids gather around Cooper to pet him and ask questions. "Why is his hair blue?" is a good question. "How do you keep him from jumping off the motorcycle?" is another one. "What kind of ice cream does he like?" "What's his name?" "Can I take him for a walk?" "Is he friendly?" "Does he do tricks?" "How old is he?" When you stand in line for free ice cream with a cute little dog with blue hair, you get to talk to A LOT of people you don't know. They take pictures of Cooper, some alone, some with children. Some people wait till after we get our ice creams and follow us back to the bike to get pictures of Cooper on the bike.
I know you must be thinking that eating ice cream for five hours is a bit extreme. I would tend to agree with you, but consider this. If we stand in line for 20 minutes to get a free ice cream, talk and entertain children and pose for pictures for 30 minutes after we get the ice cream, ride for an hour to get to the next free ice cream, get in another long line with more children, and repeat the whole process over again... how much ice cream do you think we actually get to eat? We usually get three or four small ice creams over the course of the day. What great fun these free ice cream days are. I can think of no better way to combine riding and meeting hundreds of new people all in one day?
